Lace Front Wig Application – 5 Simple Steps To Perfect Lace Wig Application
Lace wigs have become the newest must have accessory. For years they have been popular amongst celebrities but have now crossed over to main stream society. They are a great fashion accessory that grant us the ability to change our look and transform ourselves at a moments notice. All without causing damage to our natural hair.
Lace wigs look very natural when applied correctly and can be applied at home.
However, many women choose to use a professional hairstylist to apply their lace wigs, as they fear they will damage the wig or their own hair.
With a little practice you can easily apply your lace wigs on your own. However, utilizing a professional is understandable as lace wigs are expensive.
To apply your wig firmly to your head you will need to use either lace wig tape or lace wig glue.
We will be focusing on lace front wig application using glue as this tends to be the more popular choice and offers more versatility and a longer hold time.
Before beginning your lace front wig application you want to prepare your hair by either braiding it or wrapping it so that the surface is as flat as possible for your wig to lay on. The flatter the surface, the more natural your hair piece will look and feel.
You also want to gather all the materials you will need for your lace front wig application prior to starting. This will include hair pins or clips, cotton balls or cosmetic sponges, alcohol, an eyebrow pencil and of course, your lace wig glue. Now we are ready to begin.
Step 1 – Use the cotton balls or cosmetic sponges to clean your forehead area with alcohol. This will eliminate the dirt and oil from the area where the wig is to be applied. Resulting in a firmer hold.
Step 2 – Take the wig and pin back the hairs using the hairpins or clips. This will keep the hairs from getting stuck in the glue when you apply your lace wig.
Step 3 – Trim the lace on the wig. You want to cut off a little lace at time. You should use scissors that will not fray the lace.
Step 4 – Apply the wig and decide where your hairline looks most natural. Once you determine the desired location of your hairline, lightly outline the area with the eyebrow pencil.
Step 5 – Apply the glue where your hairline will be. Let the glue dry before placing the wig on your head. When the glue is sticky to the touch it is time to apply your hair piece. Press the edges of the hair piece down using a tail comb.
If you would like a stronger hold, tie a silk scarf around the perimeter of your head while the glue is drying. This will secure your wig more firmly and provide a longer lasting hold.
