How do you make a wedding dress skirt?
I’m a designer and i have done a few dresses but never a wedding dress. I want to try to make one so if some on asked me i’d be ready. I know how to sew and make patterns. I know how to make a circle skirt. And i know the tulle needs to be gathered My questions are:
1. When making a long large circle skirt how do i make the pattern because my pattern paper is not that big?
2. What are the layers of the skirt and how many?
3. How wide does the fabrics have to be in order to cut the patterns.
4. If I want a huge poofy skirt how many yards of tulle and fabric would i need?

Also if you know any website sites that can also help feel free but please please help
1. Pattern paper tapes together nicely. Just remember to line up the dots and crosses or alphanumeric characters. 60″ is usually the widest you can find.
2. Of the skirt in your example? Probably fashion fabric, underlining (organza? cape net? crin? ) and lining. Over hoops. Some of the poufs may be stuffed with crumpled organza or net.
3. Wider is better, but fabrics get pieced for skirts all the time… e.g.:

WATCH YOUR CHOICE OF FABRICS CAREFULLY! Princess Diana’s wedding dress was made by a couple of newbies, and the fabric chosen crumples and creases dreadfully, making her dress look like it had been wadded up and sat on all over. A more experienced designer would have picked another fabric, I think — look at the photo, near the hem:

4. Depends on the skirt. That thing probably has 10 yards of 60″ fabric in it. (As you can tell, I’m not fond of dresses that wear the owner.)
