Repairing and exchanging contract phone – advice?
OK so my LG Shine glass lens has cracked, Virgin won’t replace the phone and Carphone Warehouse want £45 to repair it. I’ve tracked down a replacement lens on Ebay and I can replace it myself.
My question relates to the battery which isnt secure and keeps falling out / phone turns off regularly. If I replace the screen and then contact Virgin about the battery problem (not mentioning the screen), they should replace the faulty phone shouldn’t they? Currently they won’t replace the phone as they said the cracked screen voids the warranty (I don’t understand why).
Will they be able to tell the phone has been opened? I am under the impression they send out a courier to swap the phones over at my doorstep anyway so they couldn’t check…but if they have a record of my email asking for them to repair the cracked screen, would they be suspicous or would they not really look into things that much?
What are my chances of getting the phone replaced with a different model? Thanks
Hey There, i work for 3 So i know how you feel, and not saying this just because i work for them but Virgin actually are a bad network for Customer Service.
Firstly, The LG Shine is an EXCELLENT phone, very reliable and i feel it’s currently one of the best on the Market. Very Durable and has all of the current top of the range features. You can’t go wrong with an LG.
As for the Cracked screen, ive had this with customers time and time over. It’s a little harsh really but i do see it from the Manufacturers point of view. If the Screen is cracked you’re not going to get anywhere, it voids the warranty because it’s classed as Accidental Damage. Which the warranty doesn’t cover. They only cover it for Manufaturing defects, such as if the phone breaks down or the Phone just stops working for whatever reason. With this in mind i don’t see there being much point in trying to send it off for repair with whoever because they’ll just send it straight back.
You’re much better in going to a 3rd party dealer and getting it fixed. They will most likely do it there and then right infront of you.
