Silk or real roses for wedding?
I am getting married outdoors but I do not know what to choose when it comes to flowers. I went to a flower shop and they gave me estimate for about $250 for my flowers (and that’s before adding centerpieces and reception decor). I also might have a problem with having any flower shop open as my wedding will be held on a Sunday.
I know silk is fake but at least I can get the bouquet I want with the fraction of the price. Should I get real for everyone and silk for centerpieces? Help!
However I don’t want everyone to know the centerpieces are fake. I know that’s what my mom will say.
Calla Lillies are too expensive and I already plan to have all roses with 1 color. While everyone’s flowers are not much of a problem, it’s the centerpieces. I saw a cute set of flowers in a jar but they cost about $50 each and I need about 8 of them. (It’s a small reception… and it’s held indoors)
I work at a restaurant that does weddings and I would say a good 70% of the people who have their reception there make their own centerpieces. Or they have the florist do a small arrangement, and they bring in their own votive candles, table runners and/or stuff to scatter on the table to fill in. I’ve worked there for 5 years and I can only remember 1 time when someone did silk for their ceremony bouquets and boutonnieres. Since we do over 100 weddings a year, that’s one in over 500 weddings.
So I’d say definitely do fresh for your ceremony and then do whatever you want for the reception centerpieces. I think a grouping of candles with either rose petals or those flat marbles scattered on the table is really simple and elegant. If it’s a large table, maybe do a large candle in the center. Just check with your reception hall to make sure they allow candles and if so, if they have any restrictions.
If you have a Costco or Sam’s Club membership, check them out for your fresh flowers. Costco I know for sure has a florist on staff who will do your wedding flowers, but you will probably have to go to the store to pick them up the day of the wedding…I don’t think they deliver.
