What the heck are all those little Orange or Yellow Flags?
Around highway and road construction sites I have noticed the placement of little orange or yellow flags in a seemingly random pattern on the surrounding unpaved areas. Somtimes there are HUNDREDS or them. What do these flags indicate?
These flags are for marking underground utilities. In most, if not all, states they have to be marked before ANYONE digs/excavates the area. Different colors indicate different utilities such as water, sewer, power, phone and cable. There are companies that mark these for construction companies.
