Placecard Wedding
Placecards–use Mr/Mrs or just First & Last Names?
I was at a wedding recently at which a guest (who will also be attending our upcoming wedding) mentioned that she was offended because her placecard read “Firstname Lastname” instead of “Doctor Firstname Lastname”. (None of the other placecards included Mr/Mrs/Miss/Doctor…)
So now, I wonder, what is the proper way of addressing placecards? Do you use Mr/Miss/Mrs/Doctor? Is it just the full proper name?
I really think it’s best to address the placecards as Mr and Mrs. or Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms/Doctor, etc.
A wedding is a more formal event and if you are having it at anyplace other than a backyard, park or VFW Hall; you should keep the formality of the event.
If your wedding is in your backyard or at a park, then it’s silly to address placecards with Mr and Mrs/Doctor, etc. It’s just not that formal of a situation.
Always looks at the formality of your wedding, that should determine the wording on your placecards, invitations, etc.
Anything that’s sem-formal/formal/black tie/white tie or whatever, should have proper, formal and more traditional wording.
