Wedding Favor Candles
As a wedding favor, is this tacky?
My dad passed away 5 years ago from cardiac arrest/heart failure. I’ve been active with the American Heart association ever since he was diagnosed with heart disease. My boyfriends father passed away 10 years ago from a heart attack. At our upcoming wedding, in lieu of favors, I’d like to make a charitable donation to the AHA in each of our guests names. It’s just a small way of remember our dads on such a special day. My fh thinks this isn’t at all appropriate and thinks we should stick to something more traditional like candles or something. What do you think?
Making a donation in lieu of favors is completely acceptable. However, don’t make donations in your guests’ names. Some of them may not want to be associated with that organization (you just never know).
So make it in your own name, but in memory in your father & put that on cards to put on the tables.
You could put something like:
As we begin our new lives surrounded by loved ones, we cannot help but think of our family members that cannot be here.
In lieu of favors, a donation to the American Heart Association has been made in loving memory of __________, father of the bride.
Thank-you for being a part of our special day.
