Whats the best way to take care of a sterling silver wedding ring?
I’ve noticed that the bottom of my ring is starting to get dull and scratched up. I have heard that dish soap would keep the diamonds in good shape, but what will keep my ring in good condition for a long long time? should I polish it with Wrights silver polish?
The other answerer is wrong… silver is harder than gold, unless the gold were to be 4k, which I have never heard of, and could barely be considered gold at all.
Some jewelry stores may be able to polish it, but your best bet is to find a local silversmith. Unfortunately with silver, once it gets scratched up to a certain point it’s very difficult to return it to the normal sheen using just things you can pick up at the store. You can remove tarnish yourself, but scratches are another story.
Bringing it to a professional is really the only way to get it back to “new” quality.
If you brought it to me, I would give it a light sand, put it in the tumbler for a bit, and then use the polishing wheel with tripoli and then rouge polish. None of these things are items you can buy just anywhere, I order them from a distributor and the polishing wheel is about $800, the tumbler $150
