What strategy of notes do you use for starting intervals?
So now you know your vocal range (G2 to G4) and are ready to start practicing intervals.
Do you focus on the notes that are in the middle of your range because they are more comfortable?
Or do you focus on all notes regardless?
How do you start small and build up?
In terms of vowels – i, e, a, o, u – do you focus on specific vowels or is humming more appropriate?

Work on your entire range. You will need to learn how to transition from different points in your voice smoothly. Obviously when you pick actually songs, you want to be singing mostly in whatever range you are going to be the most comfortable.
Singers do a variety of scales (I presume that’s what you mean by “intervals”) both as practice and to warm up their voices before a performance. We usually do a mix of different kinds of exercises. There is no one exercise more appropriate than others.
What you really need is to find a proper voice teacher or vocal coach that can guide you, because as you have discovered, many things about singing–even basic ones–can be very confusing to a beginner. It’s easy to do something incorrectly and not know it until the damage is done. You can check out youtube or ehow.com for various vocalises (singing exercises) but nothing takes the place of an actual person that is there to listen and observe you and give you the proper feedback to succeed.
